These Are The People In Your
Neighborhood is an organization dedicated to
building
relations between amateur and professional artists and those who
appreciate the
arts. Our wish is to create a "Swap Festival" allowing not only
for goods, but
also ideas, resources, inspiration, and appreciation. The festival
is designed
to begin and end in New York City over the span of two years with
stops in
Albuquerque, North Carolina, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and
wherever there are
people in need of developing, completing, and promoting their
arts.
One
of the major reasons many people have not shared their talents
with the world
is that they haven't been able to finish a project. Or, perhaps
they haven't
been able to find a suitable venue willing to receive their ideas.
Neighborhood wishes to create a network amongst
artists of all
abilities and give them a hand finishing their projects, or simply
give them an
audience to appreciate their ideas. Neighborhood
will showcase a
festival each season consisting of music, dance, video and still
arts, and many
other peripheral talents that the people in the community would
like to use to
express themselves. This can range from singing opera to making
the perfect
S'Mores. The content of the performance is not as important as the
willingness
to create and share.
Past contributions have included
videos, bands,
DJs, hula-hoop dancers, jugglers, comedians, body contortionists,
dancers, and
some that can only be described as "others." For those who don't
have time to
muster up a plan, we will host Five Minutes of
Shame, which will
give any participant 5 minutes of stage time to perform a dance
recital, a
stand-up routine, a monologue, or whatever their imagination
allows for an
audience of your creative peers (please note that messy
performances will have
to be cleaned by the performer).
